Strategies to Increase Communication Skills in Children

About the Event

Please contact elcbtraining@elcbroward.org if you have questions or need assistance.

Many children struggle to communicate effectively, especially children who experience expressive language difficulties. Often times, these difficulties are seen among children with autism spectrum disorder. This presentation will discuss how and why children communicate in the manner that they do. In addition, it will introduce effective strategies that may be used to increase communication amongst children.

By the end of this training, participants will:
1. Identify the ways in which children communicate and why they may utilize ineffective communication strategies
2. Discover natural methods of expanding language in children
3. Describe how to build children’s communication through the use of concrete methods (e.g., visual supports)
