Understanding Infant & Early Childhood Mental Health

About the Event

Please contact elcbtraining@elcbroward.org if you have questions or need assistance.

Infant and early childhood mental health (IECMH) refers to the full continuum of services and supports that promote healthy child development, prevent mental health problems, and identify and treat mental health disorders in young children. IECMH is often misunderstood, and significant mental health problems can and do occur in young children who may show clear signs of anxiety, challenging behaviors, depression, and post-traumatic stress related to exposure to toxic stress within their caregiving environment. This training covers critical issues in infant mental health, including brain development, attachment, and behavioral challenges.

By the end of this training, participants will:

  1. Recognize practical ways to use observation and listening to strengthen the parent-child relationship
  2. Discover how to and promote the well-being of infant and young children in order to assist in their mental health development
