Exploring the New School Year: Social Emotional Development and Transitions
About the Event
As the school year begins, teachers usually take time to prepare their classroom environment with additional materials and a curriculum in preparation for the first day. Social Emotional Development often gets overlooked, and we would like to highlight the importance of this domain. In early childhood settings, each moment that teachers and children interact with one another is an opportunity to develop positive social emotional skills. Many kindergarten teachers often state that they wish their students entering their classroom were more equipped with social emotional skills. In this training, we will discuss how Social Emotional Development is the foundation of all learning, how to use different techniques and strategies in the classroom, and explore ways in which parents can better prepare children for the transition of a new school year at home.
By the end of this training participants will:
1. Recognize the importance of focusing on Social Emotional Development skills, especially as students’ transition in the beginning of the year
2. Identify strategies to implement in the classroom to support Social Emotional Development skills
3. List ways on how parents can develop social emotional skills at home
